Making a Pinterest-Ready Website
Pinterest can drive traffic to your website, online catalog, and even some of the other social networks you use, but is your online presence optimized for Pinterest pinning? Here are some ways to ensure you have a Pinterest-friendly presence online.
Create Pinterest-compatible images.
While you can pin videos to your Pinterest board, graphics still tend to dominate the platform. Here are some of the specs you should follow when creating graphics for your Pinterest account:
- Vertical versus landscape (2:3 aspect ratio such as 1000 x 1500 pixels)
- High resolution but under 20MB
- Use PNG (preferred), JPG, BMP, TIFF, or WEBP file types
- Dominant or contrasting colors
- Brightly lit versus dark
- Clear, uncluttered composition
- Text overlay with stylized fonts
- Branding with your logo, ideally placed in the upper right or left corner
Make sure the optimized graphics you create to pin to your Boards are also available on your website to be pinned by others from there.
Use Pinterest’s "Add-On" features on your website
Pinterest offers code you can add to your website’s HTML called "Add-Ons." They provide ways for your website visitors to engage with your Pinterest account. You may need the help of a web developer to install these features. Here are some of the different types of Add-Ons Pinterest provides:
- Save - this allows others to easily save your content to their Pinterest account.
- Follow - this provides an easy way for others to follow your Pinterest account.
- Pin, Board, and Profile - this lets you show a single Pin, a Board, or your Pinterest profile on your website and site visitors can click on them to re-pin or follow you.
- Pinterest Tag and API this tracks website actions to measure the effectiveness of your Pinterest ads and to create targeted audiences.
Even just installing the Save Add-On makes it easier for you to pin from your own website to your Pinterest account, as well as letting others help market your site for you on their accounts.
Add your product catalogue to Pinterest
If you are selling products on your website, you can add your products to Pinterest and build Product Pins that link directly to purchasing those items. Product Pins signal to Pinterest users that the items are shoppable by showing a product title with a description, pricing, and availability.
There are several ways to create Product Pins and sell on Pinterest. You can bulk upload pins and product information using a CSV file with your product details. This way you can create multiple Product Pins at once.
To automatically sync your product information to your Pinterest account, you can add your online store RSS feed to Pinterest Business, and it will generate Pins from your product data. When you update your online store, those changes will eventually appear in the connected pins without any further action on your part.
If you are using a trusted ecommerce site for your shop, such as Shopify, you can connect your shop to your Pinterest account. This installs the Pinterest tag and Conversions API for tracking and advertising. When you upload product listings on your shop, that information will automatically update in your Pins. You’ll need both a Pinterest Business account and ad account to set up shop.
Using Pinterest can help you market your company and drive traffic to your website. Optimizing your website for Pinterest can empower others to share your content and send more visitors to your site. Uploading your product catalog content into Pinterest can expand your reach and potentially help increase sales.
