3 Features to Up Your Pinterest Game
Pinterest, like other popular social networks, constantly evolves and expands its features to attract and retain users. As a small business owner, being aware of these changes and leveraging them to enhance your social media marketing efforts can be challenging.
Sometimes, a feature is introduced but doesn’t come to your attention while you’re busy running your business. Other times, a new feature may seem interesting but not currently relevant to how you’re using Pinterest. Whether a feature is brand new or new to you, understanding what it does and how it could be useful involves doing some research and possibly even testing it out if it seems promising.
Pay attention to the emails that Pinterest sends once you’ve set up your Pinterest Business account. In addition to industry and marketing news and resources, you can learn about new Pinterest features debuting on the site. Visit the Pinterest Newsroom on their website to peruse monthly articles that highlight features and trends. You can also find business case studies on their site that examine how other companies are using the platform for marketing.
Here are some newer Pinterest features you may not have tried yet and how they might benefit your brand marketing.
Using Pinterest Lens
If you’re using Pinterest for inspiration, information, or even to locate specific products online, you can use Pinterest Lens on the Pinterest mobile app. Pinterest Lens lets you point your smartphone camera toward any object to start a search on the site. Simply click on the magnifying glass icon on the mobile app and take a photo of any item from clothing to home décor to appliances and more and the results will give you immediate access to information about the object or show similar objects.
Choosing the Explore option on the search results can lead you to information such as product specs, and the Shop option can lead to where you can buy the item online. You can even take a photograph of an ingredient, such as a banana, and choose Explore to access recipes that call for bananas. Choosing shop will let you know where you can buy the bananas.
Creating collages
The Collage feature on Pinterest helps you easily and automatically cut out parts of any pins and add the visual elements to a collage-creating tool. You can then move those cut out elements around to create a newly designed collage pin to share.
This feature is another convenient way to generate visual content quickly to share on Pinterest and to populate other social networks you use. The collages can be theme-based to showcase your products, such as pairing your fashion accessories with outfits or your home décor products with complementary furniture.
Not all features added to Pinterest will directly affect how you use the platform. When you identify new features, take the time to learn how they work. Assess if they can potentially enhance how you’re using Pinterest. If they help you generate fresh content for other platforms, even better. Once you know how to use them properly, integrate them into your Pinterest marketing routine to potentially boost the effectiveness of your social media marketing.
Sharing your Pinterest boards as a video
When you add multiple images to a Pin, a video is autogenerated to present the images as a montage. You can then share that video to other networks including Facebook, X, Instagram, Messenger, and iMessage. You can also share an entire board of pins in a similar manner.
Choose the board you’d like to share then click the Share icon. Pinterest will automatically compile the pins on that particular board into a video. From there, you can share the video on your Instagram Story or even download it and share it on any platform.
This video-generating feature gives you a fresh way to share content that you’ve saved on Pinterest. In addition to posting to Pinterest, these video montages are ideal for Reels and Stories to attract attention and generate views. You can also post them to your YouTube channel as you would with any videos you produce and want to archive.
