The SBA announces the new Deputy Administrator to its leadership team, after the swearing-in of William Briggs.
William Briggs was recently sworn in as the new Deputy Administrator of the United States Small Business Administration (SBA) after confirmation by the Senate. Briggs was Acting Associate Administrator for the SBA’s Office of Capital Access during President Trump’ s first administration. At that time, he was heavily involved in the development and implementation of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) during the COVID-19 pandemic. SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler commented, “I’m pleased to welcome Deputy Administrator Bill Briggs to the SBA as part of an incredible leadership team that is hard at work delivering results for America’s job creators. With a strong record of service at the agency and in the private sector, Bill will be a tremendous asset as we work to restore the SBA as an engine for opportunity and economic growth - and advance President Trump’s agenda that will Make Main Street Great Again.” Briggs is a native of Texas and is reportedly a small business owner himself, with over 20 years of private sector experience prior to his new role. According to his LinkedIn profile, the federal initiatives he led were worth over $1 trillion in a crisis environment, and he has managed "dozens of teams" in multiple roles in the private and public sectors, as well as in public affairs efforts. He worked with both the state and federal governments and served in legislative and executive branch roles and he has extensive regulatory experience in the small business and lending areas. Hon. William Briggs Deputy Administrator, SBA “It’s an honor to be back at the SBA and to continue my work serving America’s small businesses,” Briggs said in a press release. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Administrator Loeffler, our job creators are poised for a historic era of growth, innovation, and prosperity. I’m excited to deliver that comeback to Main Streets across America by empowering them with the capital, counseling, and contracting opportunities to thrive.” The National Small Business Association, a small business advocacy group, wrote in a letter of support, "Mr. Briggs brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing America’s small businesses. His tenure as Acting Associate Administrator in the SBA’s Office of Capital Access, as well as his leadership in public policy and financial services, have demonstrated his commitment to the small businesses community and make him uniquely qualified to serve as Deputy Administrator. NSBA is confident that Mr. Briggs will bring the vision, leadership, and dedication necessary to strengthen the SBA’s mission and support America’s small businesses." Briggs isn’ t the only new addition to the SBA. Since the announcement, Dr. Casey Mulligan was also sworn in as Chief Counsel for Advocacy. According to the administration, this is the first time in eight years in which it has had a Senate-confirmed person in this role. Mulligan previously served as Chief Economist on the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) during the first Trump Administration, where he was involved with crafting economic policies. |
